TMQ (Polymerized 2,2,4-Trimethyl-1,2-dihydroquinoline) is a highly effective amine-based antioxidant widely used in the rubber industry to protect elastomers against thermal oxidation, oxygen attack, and heat-induced aging. As a polymerized antioxidant, TMQ provides long-lasting protection and excellent retention within rubber compounds, making it particularly suitable for applications requiring extended service life and resistance to high-temperature conditions. TMQ is extensively used in the manufacture of tires, conveyor belts, hoses, cable insulation, seals, gaskets, footwear, and a variety of industrial rubber products. It helps prevent degradation of rubber compounds during processing, storage, and end-use by reducing the effects of oxidative aging and thermal stress. This results in improved durability, enhanced mechanical properties, and longer product lifespan. The product is typically supplied as brown to reddish-brown granules, flakes, or resinous powder and is compatible with natural rubber as well as most synthetic elastomers. Due to its relatively high molecular weight and oligomeric structure, TMQ exhibits low volatility and low migration, ensuring sustained antioxidant performance throughout the life of the rubber product. TMQ is frequently used together with antiozonants such as 6PPD to provide a comprehensive protection system against both oxidative aging and ozone attack. Its excellent heat-aging resistance and long-term stabilization properties make it an industry-standard antioxidant for demanding rubber applications where durability and performance are critical.
